Outdoor TV Installation in Colorado: Surviving Hail, Sun, and -10° Winters
February 18, 20267 min read
We get this call every June after the first big hailstorm: 'My outdoor TV is dead.' Almost always, it was an indoor TV mounted under a pergola — which the manufacturer's warranty explicitly excludes.
Why indoor TVs fail outside in Colorado
- Hailstones up to 2" common along the Front Range
- 85°F summer afternoon → 35°F overnight thermal cycling
- Direct alpine UV ages LCD panels in 2–3 seasons
- Pollen, dust, and wildfire smoke clog vents
What we actually install
Séura, SunBriteTV (Full Sun series), and Peerless-AV outdoor displays — all rated for full-sun installation, IP55 or better, and operating temps from -24°F to 122°F.
Mounting and protection
- Articulating outdoor-rated mount (not an indoor mount with a cover)
- GFCI weatherproof outlet behind the TV
- Cat6 + HDMI in conduit, not direct-bury
- Optional storm cover for off-season
