The Denver New Construction Smart Home Prewire Checklist

January 20, 202610 min read

We get called too late on most new builds. Drywall is up, the GC is on the next project, and the buyer wants Atmos in the great room. Here's the checklist to get to your builder before framing closes.

Before framing inspection

  • Two Cat6A home runs to every TV location
  • 16/4 speaker wire to every ceiling speaker location (in-ceiling Atmos)
  • Conduit from media closet to attic and basement
  • Neutral wires at every switch box
  • Cat6 + RG6 to every keypad and thermostat location
  • Dedicated 20A circuits in the AV rack location

AV rack location

Plan a real closet — 4'x4' minimum, with active ventilation, a sub-panel, and floor-to-ceiling plywood backing. Not under the stairs.

Outdoor and garage

  • Conduit to every soffit camera location
  • Speaker wire to patio/pergola in conduit
  • Cat6 to garage door opener and EV charger
  • Outdoor-rated TV outlet under any covered patio

Get this on the plans

We meet with your architect or builder during DD/CD to redline plans and produce low-voltage drawings the framers can actually follow.
